Teaching Methodology – The following methods will be used:
Lectures, visual aids, projects, article reviews, and oral presentations of media and videos developed will be used to reinforce the material and motivate the student.
Philosophy: The course will be guided by the philosophy that one learns by doing and that a proper balance between theory and practice is essential for genuine understanding of the subject. Therefore, this class is project based and the student will develop media and videos for specific purposes throughout the year.
Course Description:
This is an introduction course in media production, which uses the software programs Adobe Premiere Pro, MS Movie Maker, Adobe Photoshop, and various free programs to modify and edit media and videos. These programs are used for designing and editing various media formats and videos. Using both basic and advanced functions, you can produce a professional looking media output. The emphasis of this course is in designing and developing media for various purposes and goals. Specific topics include obtaining the necessary media footage, editing, modifying, and post production additions. The key goal is for the student to understand how the media production works, how it is produced, and ultimately, producing media for specific end users.
Course Summary:
The media production is now an integral part of our lives and is especially important for educational and business purposes. By understanding how media is set up for the various intents, a student can better understand how to navigate through storyboarding, obtaining initial media material, lighting, sound recording, editing, adding sound and media effects, and proper crediting. They will learn this by designing their media to meet various goals or purposes. They will also be required to present their final designs to the class through an oral presentation. The use of various technologies will be an integral part of this course, as well as intellectual writing.
Course Objective:
This course is designed as an Introduction to Media Production. Students will learn to organize their work plan, editing and finalized their work, and produce finished media that will meet the goals of the assignment and potential users of the work.

Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Understand the basics of Media Production.
2. Be able to design a useful and intelligent product.
3. Understand the terminology of media production and the technology used.
4. Produce quality media and understand how to meet the goals of the various end user or clients.
5. Present their creations in a meaningful and accurate manor.
6. Realize the importance of the media production in our society.
7. Produce customized graphics and designs for their media products.
8. Understand why media products are created the way they are in order to provide the required information to the end user.
9. Write intelligently about their design by describing it so that someone understands what they created and why they created it.
Grading Criteria:
Assignments will be made to illustrate each topic listed in the course outline. Handouts will be provided and students will be required to complete each for grading. Assignments will consist of individual projects or group projects depending on the complexity of the topic under consideration. Each student will be required to keep a digital portfolio of his/her work. Oral reports, written reports, and article reviews will be given in addition to other assignments.
